Photo Diary: Xiapu

If you’ve been following us on social media, you’ll probably have noticed that we were in Xiapu, aka home to one of the most charming fishing villages in all of China. We love visiting as it always feels like we’re stepping back into time, and despite the numerous visits over the years, not much has changed and we love it for that.

New year resolution: more portaiture. This stunning beauty was the perfect model.
A fisherwoman makes her way through the mudflats.
Everyone couldn’t get enough of this scene where the skies were perfectly reflected in the sea.
Hard at work.
Their people are known to some as sea gypsies, as they’ve been living off the sea (and in it, on boats) for generations.
Repairing some of the wooden beams that support the nets.
Xiapu holds on to many of its traditions, and cooking over a wood-fired stove is one of them that is still commonly practiced.
Hanging out huge sheets of seaweed to dry.
