Photo Workshop: Guilin Photography Tour 2020

We are just months away from our annual photography tour to Guilin, aka one of the most beautiful places in the world. Home to idyllic sceneries that the tag “IG Worthy” doesn’t do justice, we look forward to this little slice of heaven every year.

The meandering LiJiang river bathed in dusk’s splendour

Just look at that! The river is flanked by emerald limestone karsts that give this picturesque river side city a vibe as though hidden away from civilisation for several hundred years.

In fact, the local fishermen actually still adopt fishing techniques dating back to half a millennium ago. Expertly balanced on floating, bamboo rafts these fishermen hunt with cormorants instead of rods by tying a length of rope around the birds’ long necks. This prevents the birds from swallowing their catch.

Fun fact: did you know that cormorant fishing was also a thing –albeit briefly– in France and England back in the day too?

It is quite a sight to behold, and is one of the many reasons why we love visiting Guilin – to feel like we’ve stepped back into time. On this photo workshop, you will be allowed to join them for the day and experience this ancient method of fishing for yourself.

The majestic emerald karsts offer possibly one of the most incredible backdrops for a photoshoot ever!

Join us in Guilin from 18 July to 22 July 2020 and see a side of China that somehow still manages to exist alongside the hustle and bustle of cosmopolitan Shanghai and Beijing.
