INNER MONGOLIA PHOTO TOUR

Bashang Grasslands

The special climate and geographical position at the junction of the North China Plain and the Inner Mongolia Grasslands give Bashang its unique natural landscapes and make it a popular destination for tourists and photographers. The wide, flat Mongolian plateau slopes gently down towards the mountains. The prairie is peaceful, home to nomads and grazing flocks of sheep and herds of cows.

Guided by Award Winning Photographer Joseph Mak, who has been to Inner Mongolia numerous times, with his Inner Mongolia Photos having won numerous International Awards. With him guiding the group, you have a high chance of capturing these award winning photos.

UNUSUAL EXPEDITION’s trips are well known for accomplishing a lot in just a few days. We basically pack a lot of content with different themes in the trip. This workshop will be no different. Locations shots each day are based on daily weather and lighting conditions.

What to Expect

Inner Mongolia, an autonomous region of northern China, encompasses green steppe, arid desert and lengthy sections of the Great Wall of China. The wide, flat plateaus slope gently downwards toward the mountains, her prairie peaceful and home to nomads and grazing flocks of sheep and hers of cows.

The vast grasslands are what many come to see, dotted with mushroom shaped gers and land as far as the eye can see. One almost expects to see Ghenghis Khan and his horde charging across the land, for the area is still very much untouched by the ravages of modern times.

  • Lush Landscapes
  • Herds of wild horses
  • The Great Wall of China
  • Herders and their animals
Itinerary

DAY 1 – BEIJING TO INNER MONGOLIA
You will be met at Beijing Airport and we will make our way to Inner Mongolia. We will check in at the hotel and spend the night before heading out into the wild the next day. This is your chance to ask as many questions as you want and get to know your fellow expeditors.

Meals: (L,D)

DAY 2 to 5 – INNER MONGOLIA
We will spend 3 days in the Bashang Grassland, also known as the Tanshang or Jingbei Diyi Grassland. It is the nearest grassland to Beijing, just 280km north. The beautiful lands boasts unique natural landscapes and great climate conditions, making it a popular spot for tourists and photographers.

Here, you will be able to ride horses, watch local wrestling competitions (if there are any ongoing) and staying in traditional Monoglian gers where you’ll have the opportunity to try whole roasted sheep and other traditional food.

Mulan Paddock – located in Weichang Manchi, the Mulan Paddock is regarded as Beijing’s backyard garden. It used to be a royal hunting place and a summer retreat during the Qing Dynasty, and remains a popular destination today. The 2,324 square kilometres of rare, natural grassland features a tranquil, gorgeous landscape with flocks of birds.

Badain Jaran Desert – possibly the most famous deserts of Inner Mongolia. September is the best time to visit, as temperatures are very temperate. Here, you will have the chance to photograph beautiful sand dunes and experience the magic of singing sands. The Badain Jaran megadunes is one of the few places where a phenomenon known as the “singing sand dunes”, “whistling sands” or “booming dunes”. This rare occasion emits a sharp, loud noise that can be maintained for more than a minute, and is quite the otherworldly experience!

Exact photography locations will depend on weather conditions.

Situated on the Big and Small Jinshanling Mountains, this restored 16th-century section of the Great Wall of China features 5 passes & 67 towers. It was initially built from 1368 to 1389 in the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), and in 1567 and 1570 rebuilding of the Wall was mainly directed by General Qi Jiguang (1528–1588).
