Inner Mongolia, an autonomous region of northern China, encompasses green steppe, arid desert and lengthy sections of the Great Wall of China. The wide, flat plateaus slope gently downwards toward the mountains, her prairie peaceful and home to nomads and grazing flocks of sheep and hers of cows.
The vast grasslands are what many come to see, dotted with mushroom shaped gers and land as far as the eye can see. One almost expects to see Ghenghis Khan and his horde charging across the land, for the area is still very much untouched by the ravages of modern times.
DAY 1 – BEIJING TO INNER MONGOLIA
You will be met at Beijing Airport and we will make our way to Inner Mongolia. We will check in at the hotel and spend the night before heading out into the wild the next day. This is your chance to ask as many questions as you want and get to know your fellow expeditors.

Mulan Paddock – located in Weichang Manchi, the Mulan Paddock is regarded as Beijing’s backyard garden. It used to be a royal hunting place and a summer retreat during the Qing Dynasty, and remains a popular destination today. The 2,324 square kilometres of rare, natural grassland features a tranquil, gorgeous landscape with flocks of birds.
Badain Jaran Desert – possibly the most famous deserts of Inner Mongolia. September is the best time to visit, as temperatures are very temperate. Here, you will have the chance to photograph beautiful sand dunes and experience the magic of singing sands. The Badain Jaran megadunes is one of the few places where a phenomenon known as the “singing sand dunes”, “whistling sands” or “booming dunes”. This rare occasion emits a sharp, loud noise that can be maintained for more than a minute, and is quite the otherworldly experience!
