LAKE BAIKAL PHOTO TOUR – RUSSIA

LAKE BAIKAL

Lake Baikal is an ancient, massive lake in the mountainous Russian region of Siberia, north of the Mongolian border. It is the deepest lake in the world.

Winter is probably the best time of year to go and discover the spirit of Lake Baikal. The ice of Baikal can reach 1.5 meters thick, when the lake’s surface is frozen solid and the temperatures are at subzero. At the same time, the air is dry and the skies are surprisingly sunny. In our photo tour, we will be capturing these magical moments with the deep blue ice with countless of air bubbles during sunrise and sunset.

UNUSUAL EXPEDITION’s trips are well known for accomplishing a lot in just a few days. We basically pack a lot of content with different themes in a single trip. This workshop will be no different. Locations shoots each day are dependant on daily weather and lighting conditions.

LAKE BAIKAL

DAY 3 to 5 – LAKE BAIKAL
We will spend 3 days around Lake Baikal. Every morning, we will prepare ourselves for an early morning sunrise shoot of the icy lake and the iconic view, followed by exciting programs like visiting the local tribes or watching the locals ice fishing.

Located in Eastern Siberia, between Irkutsk Oblast to the northwest and Buryatia to the southeast, it is the planet’s deepest and oldest lake (formed 25 to 30 million years go), as well as the largest body of freshwater, containing over a fifth of the world’s supply. It is surrounded by the Baikal mountains, and the lake itself consists of a few ranges.

After our dinner, weather permitting, we will attempt some astrophotography, and with some luck, we’ll be able to capture the milky way in all its glory.

Do note: we will be repeating the same routine of early mornings and late nights, so be prepared for not much sleep!

Exact photography location will depend on weather conditions.
