Yangshuo

Yangshuo, nestled among towering karst peaks and tranquil rivers, is a paradise for landscape photographers. Known for its stunning countryside and vibrant culture, Yangshuo offers a mix of serene rural scenes, bustling markets, and unique karst formations. Highlights include the scenic Yulong River, Moon Hill’s panoramic views, and the lively West Street.

Xingping

Xingping, an ancient town on the banks of the Li River, is renowned for its historical architecture and picturesque landscapes. Once the largest town along the river, Xingping’s narrow streets and Ming and Qing dynasty buildings provide a rich backdrop for photography. The iconic cormorant fishermen, casting their nets at sunrise and sunset, offer an unparalleled glimpse into traditional Chinese life.

Longji Rice Terraces

The Longji Rice Terraces, also known as the “Dragon’s Backbone,” are a breathtaking example of agricultural artistry. These terraces, carved into the mountains over centuries, offer photographers dramatic landscapes that change with the seasons. Itinerary

Day 1
SINGAPORE | NANNING | XIANGGONG HILL

This Guilin photo tour begins with an international flight from Singapore to Nanning, the gateway to southern China. Upon arrival, we meet the team and begin our scenic road journey towards the Xianggong Hill region, it is approximately 260 km (~4 hours). This drive introduces the early hints of the karst landscape that will define much of our photography adventure.

Upon reaching Xianggong Hill, we check in to rest and recharge. This day is intentionally slower-paced to allow participants to recover from travel and adjust to the local atmosphere. We will also review the photography plan and discuss key highlights of the Guilin photo tour, including techniques for Li River compositions.

Overnight at Xianggong Hill, where preparations are made for the first sunrise shoot. With mist often settling over the Li River at dawn, tomorrow marks the real start of our Guilin photo tour experience.

Meals: Dinner
Day 2
XIANGGONG HILL | LONGJI RICE TERRACES

Our Guilin photo tour begins at sunrise from Xianggong Hill viewpoint — one of China’s most iconic scenes. The layered karst peaks rising above the Li River offer perfect framing opportunities, especially with clouds and mist drifting low over the water. This session focuses on composition, atmospheric storytelling, and changing light across the peaks.

After breakfast, we depart for the world-renowned Longji Rice Terraces, a must-visit destination on any Guilin photo tour. The 3.5-hour journey winds through mountain roads, with glimpses of traditional agricultural life scattered along the way. Upon arrival, we explore the terraces and scout locations for sunset.

The sunset over the Longji Rice Terraces offers golden light cutting across thousands of rice paddy layers. Leading lines, natural S-curves and human activity such as rice planting often enhance the photographs. This is one of the highlights of our Guilin photo tour, especially for landscape photographers.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 3
LONGJI RICE TERRACES | GUILIN CITY

The day begins early with a sunrise shoot at the Longji Rice Terraces, where farmers might be seen tending the fields, adding scale and storytelling to your images. This is a perfect opportunity to capture the essence of rural China through lifestyle and portraiture photography in natural light.

After the shoot, we travel back to Guilin City (~2.5 hours), where modern life blends with ancient riverside charm. Guilin serves as a transition from mountain landscapes to more urban compositions, making it an ideal stop on any Guilin photo tour. Here, street and cultural photography opportunities abound, especially along the Li River.

In the afternoon, we explore Guilin’s bustling streets, local markets, and scenic waterfront. Participants are encouraged to experiment with various styles — from documentary-style images to moody river reflections. Tonight, we review photographs taken so far and prepare for the shift towards Xingping and Yangshuo in the coming days.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4
GUILIN | XINGPING ANCIENT TOWN

We begin the day with a journey to Tianxin Village, a quiet and authentic rural setting ideal for capturing everyday life in the Guangxi region. Local artisans, traditional homes, and peaceful farming scenes provide cultural depth to this Guilin photo tour. Portraits, lifestyle shots, and scene-setting compositions are encouraged here.

By midday, we transfer to Xingping, one of the most picturesque towns in the area and a favorite among landscape photographers. Upon arrival, we check in and explore the town’s ancient streets, before heading to the riverside for sunset over the Li River. The reflections of karst peaks are a signature visual of this Guilin photo tour.

As the sun sets, Xingping transforms into a painterly landscape. Golden tones meet layers of mountains, and fishermen may appear with cormorants, a classic Chinese silhouette scene that many aim to capture during their Guilin photo tour. Tomorrow, we return for dawn light.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5
XINGPING

Before sunrise, we head to Huangbutan, one of the most famous Li River viewpoints near Xingping. Calm water often provides mirror-like reflections of the karst peaks, especially in the early morning before the wind arrives. This is a prime shooting spot on our Guilin photo tour and one of the most iconic views in Yangshuo region.

The rest of the day is spent exploring Xingping’s narrow streets, villages, and local life. This offers a contrast to the landscapes, encouraging cultural and portrait photography. Participants may visit local workshops, street vendors, or small docks to observe daily routines.

In the evening, we board a small boat toward a nearby island for sunset. With karst silhouettes reflecting on the horizon, this moment is often considered one of the highlights of the Guilin photo tour. Low light compositions and tripod work are recommended here to capture the magical transition from golden light to blue hour.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6
XINGPING | YANGSHUO

Weather permitting, we revisit Huangbutan for sunrise. If successful, participants may explore smaller river inlets and fishing villages near Xingping, discovering more intimate scenes beyond the classic Li River view. This day highlights the slower, observational style of photography that defines the best Guilin photo tour experiences.

In the afternoon, we travel to Yangshuo, famed for its karst mountains and vibrant lifestyle. Yangshuo offers a mix of street photography, night scenes, river reflections, and dynamic people-filled compositions. Making it essential to mention in any Guilin photo tour SEO search. West Street is especially lively and a great ending for our day.

After dark, participants may join the optional Liu Sanjie performance, a cultural show staged directly on the Li River with the mountains of Yangshuo serving as the natural backdrop. Dramatic lighting, water movements, and human silhouettes perfectly wrap up today’s photography experience.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 7
XINGPING | NANNING

Today offers a final chance for sunrise photography. Either at Huangbutan or at Cuiping Hill, another scenic viewpoint overlooking patchwork fields and village rooftops. Whether you favour wide landscapes or village activity, this is a rewarding finale to the Guilin photo tour.

After lunch, we begin the 5.5-hour drive back to Nanning. Along the journey, we reflect on the highlights of Yangshuo, Xingping, and the Longji Rice Terraces, and review favorite compositions captured throughout the trip. This road back often leads to meaningful photography discussions and portfolio-building ideas.

Upon arrival in Nanning, we settle in for our final night. Participants may use this time for backup, image editing, or trip reflection. Tomorrow, we conclude this unforgettable Guilin photo tour and return home.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
