Your journey to the captivating Omo Valley begins in Addis Ababa, the vibrant capital of Ethiopia. Upon your arrival, you'll have the opportunity to explore this bustling city, known for its rich history and cultural diversity. Depending on your arrival time, you might explore iconic sites such as the National Museum, home to the famous fossilized remains of "Lucy," or ascend Mount Entoto for panoramic views of the city. As the day winds down, you’ll enjoy a traditional Ethiopian dinner, offering a taste of the country’s renowned cuisine, before settling in for the night, marking the start of your Omo Valley Tribal Photo Tour in Ethiopia.

As the morning sun rises, the overland adventure begins as you depart Addis Ababa and fly to Jinka through the scenic Rift Valley. The route offers breathtaking views of Ethiopia’s diverse landscapes, including lush highlands and serene lakes.

Today is dedicated to one of the most iconic tribes of the Omo Valley, the Mursi. Upon arrival, you’ll head to Mago National Park to visit a Mursi village. The Mursi people are known for their distinctive lip plates and elaborate body scarification, providing unique photographic opportunities. After spending the morning with the Mursi, you’ll drive to Turmi, home of the Hamar tribe. The drive offers stunning views of the Omo Valley’s diverse ecosystems. Upon arrival, you may visit a Hamar village at sunset, capturing the beautiful light as it illuminates the traditional huts and the Hamar people’s striking appearance, a highlight of the Omo Valley Tribal Photo Tour in Ethiopia.

If a bull-jumping ceremony is happening during your visit, you’ll have the chance to witness and photograph this dramatic rite of passage, which marks the transition of young men into adulthood. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the local market in Turmi or Dimeka, where various tribes gather to trade goods. The market is a colorful and dynamic environment, perfect for candid photography. Your journey then takes you to Omorate, located near the Omo River, where you’ll visit the Dassanech tribe. After a scenic drive, you’ll cross the river by boat to reach the Dassanech villages. The Dassanech people are known for their elaborate scarification and traditional clothing, providing unique subjects for portrait photography. After spending the morning with the Dassanech, you’ll return to Turmi. Depending on the time, you may visit another nearby tribe, such as the Karo, who are famous for their body painting. The evening offers another opportunity for a sunset photography session before returning to your lodge, continuing the deep cultural exploration of the Omo Valley Tribal Photo Tour in Ethiopia.

Day 5 | TURMI | JINKA

After breakfast, we set out from Turmi toward the Arbore tribe, passing through striking landscapes that make the drive itself a photographic highlight. The Arbore are known for their unique cultural identity, and this visit offers a chance to capture powerful portraits and lifestyle images in their village.

On the return to Jinka, we pass through Keyafer and make a stop with the Bena tribe, where young men often carry traditional sticks as symbols of pride and maturity. By evening, we arrive in Jinka, where you will rest overnight before your final departure.

Day 6 | JINKA | ADDIS ABABA

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning in Jinka before transferring to the airport for your flight to Addis Ababa. Board a midday flight from Jinka, departing around 2:15 pm and arriving in the capital at 3:35 pm.

Once in Addis Ababa, you will have time to rest and enjoy a farewell dinner before connecting to your international night flight home.
